Celebrating 50 Years of the Aeolian Singers
Join us to celebrate 50 years of music-making, innovative story-telling, and community connections. This event will feature a mix of songs requested by former and current choir members, a few trips down memory lane, nods to future projects, and the world premiere of Her Eyes on the Horizon, by composer and choir member Jenny Trites.

We are pleased to offer this celebration of choral singing in a premier setting: the Joseph Strug Concert Hall right here in Halifax. A light reception will follow.

Ria Kim

Ria Kim (she, her) is a pianist originally from Korea and currently teaching at the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts and collaborating at Dalhousie University. She received her education at the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts with Oxana Zotova at the Fountain School of Performing Arts (Dalhousie University) with Lynn Stodola, Peter Allen and at the Manhattan School of Music with Daniel Epstein where she earned her MMus.

Ria’s main interest has expanded from classical performances towards pedagogy, performing multi-genre and cross-genre music and incorporates such freedom in her teaching and collaborative performances. At her attendance at Domaine Forget, Shandelee Music Festival, Bowdoin Music Festival she had the opportunity to study with Yonghee Moon, Philip Chiu, John Forconi, Chiharu Iinuma.

Her passion for collaborative piano playing continues this year.

Megan Chandler

Megan Chandler is known for her musicality and ensemble playing, and she has leadership experience in musical theatre, jazz, and classical ensembles. She holds a Masters in Music Performance from the University of Toronto where she studied with double bassist Edward Tait. An accomplished orchestral player, Megan is an occasional musician with Symphony Nova Scotia and is the principal bassist of Nova Sinfonia. She was a section musician with the Kingston Symphony for four years and an active member of the contemporary music ensemble at the University of Toronto. Megan has performed in productions of Spring Awakening (Queen’s Musical Theatre); The Light in The Piazza (Queen’s Student Opera Company); Leonard Bernstein’s Candide (Queen’s Drama); The Mikado (QMT); Man of La Mancha (QMT); and HMS Pinafore and Handel’s Imeneo (University of Toronto Opera). Since 2017, she has taught strings for Halifax Regional Arts, a publicly funded program in HRCE. In her spare time, Megan hosts a weekly radio show on CKDU-FM.

Dante Kierstead

Dante Kierstead is an in-demand and award-winning drummer from Halifax, NS. Known for his versatility, Dante performs across jazz, indie, and contemporary styles in live, session, and residency settings. He holds a Music Arts Diploma from NSCC (’25) and is currently completing a Bachelor of Music degree at the Fountain School of Performing Arts, Dalhousie University.
